Spain becomes first EU country to ban arm carrying vessel destined for Israel

Recently on 8th Sept’ 2025, Spanish Prime Minister Mr. Pedro Sanchez announced to efforts to make total arms embargo to Israel. He said these actions are meant to stop genocide at Gaza

Implementation of the embargo – As per the country’s policy the embargo needs to be passed through the parliament which is expected to completed in a month as the prime minister expects a majority support from the parliament including members of his party.

Below will be the implication in Israel bound cargo

• Spain will ban movement of ships carrying oil and supplies for Israel defense force.

• In longer run Spain can also ban the berthing of ships of Israel general citizen in case it thinks the ship is intended to provide support to Israel army / navy / air force.

This should not create an impact for now as other nearby countries can provide vessel berthing support to Israel 

The consequence of this can either gain more support from EU member countries and can also alienate Spain in EU, lets see what future brings. Will keep you updated.
