On 9th Nov’ 2024, It was beautiful day until two terrorist driven planes struck the twin tower in New York and a catastrophe was unfolded. Since the attack was continuous and there was no mobile phone, the security team became cautious and prepared for more attacks thus the lower Manhattan was shut down and there was extreme chaos. Thousands of American citizens were trapped in streets choked by dust and the area was surrounded by water.

At that moment maritime industry responded with full force and all available ships including ferries, merchant vessels, private boats and other government department ships and within 9 hours approx. half a million people were boatlifted from Lower Manhattan to safety across New York harbour.

·       More 150 vessels supported this cause

·       More the 800 marines were involved in the evacuation

·       It took only 9 hours to complete this evacuation

Lieutenant Mike Day of United Coast Guard lead this evacuation and planned the movement.

Despite the immense courage of cooperation, many people still don’t know about this evacuation.

Today after 24 years we remember the suffering we went through after the twin tower were attacked but we should also remember how the mariners and maritime industry came forward to make history’s largest boatlift evacuation.

Would request all to share this blog in respect of the mariners who turned out from normal human being to extraordinary gentlemen on that day.

Below is the youtube link from Channel Friday explaining the boatlift in detail
