Current Shipping Status
Following the sinking of GFS PRIDE and attacks on multiple vessels in the Strait of Hormuz over the past two weeks, shipping operations to Jebel Ali and other Middle East ports remain disrupted.
According to Logisticswall’s latest operational updates, major carriers, including MSC, CMA CGM, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, have stopped or restricted bookings on direct sailings through the Strait of Hormuz since 20 October. Carrier policies may vary depending on the service and security situation.
Alternative Routes and Delays
Shipments to Jebel Ali are being redirected through alternative gateways, including Khor Fakkan and Fujairah. However, transit times remain unpredictable, with vessel waiting periods at Khor Fakkan estimated at approximately 21–25 days in affected cases.
Previously, vessels could sail directly from Colombo to Jebel Ali. Revised rotations may now include Colombo, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Karachi, Khor Fakkan and Sohar, adding port calls and delays.
Why Is Khor Fakkan Congested?
High cargo volumes: Diversions are placing additional pressure on port capacity.
Bullwhip effect: Earlier delays have disrupted vessel schedules and concentrated arrivals.
Unplanned vessel calls: Security incidents and revised routes have made berth planning difficult.
Impact on Exporters
Indian exporters should prepare for longer transit times, uncertain arrival dates and possible additional logistics costs. Before dispatch, confirm the vessel's routing, transshipment arrangements and revised estimated time of arrival with the shipping line or freight forwarder.
Logisticswall Outlook
Logisticswall expects direct sailings to Jebel Ali and other Persian Gulf ports to resume when security conditions permit and carriers confirm their services. Even after normal routes reopen, clearing the accumulated congestion may take time.
Still we expect direct sailing through strait of Hormuz to start by next month for few shipping lines.
Until then, exporters should plan shipments against confirmed vessel schedules rather than standard transit-time estimates.
