DGFT restricts import policy under Notification 67, reinforces controlled trade framework

India has tightened its import policy framework through DGFT Notification No. 67/2025-26, issued on 27 March 2026, introducing revised conditions under the ITC (HS) classification.

The notification amends Schedule I (Import Policy) of ITC (HS) 2022, impacting specific product categories by either revising their import status or bringing them under stricter regulatory oversight. While operational details vary by HS code, the broader policy direction signals continued reliance on controlled or restricted trade mechanisms.

The move aligns with the government’s ongoing strategy to balance domestic supply stability with external trade flows, particularly in sensitive or essential commodity segments. For logistics and supply chain stakeholders, the update introduces compliance checkpoints, documentation scrutiny, and potential routing changes depending on the affected items.

From an operational standpoint, importers must reassess contracts, licensing requirements, and lead times, as policy-led restrictions continue to shape cargo movement and market access across regulated sectors.
