China unblocks and restarts specific product exports to India

Recently on 19th Aug 2025 China announced to unblock and restart the exports of specialty fertilizers and few other critical products to India. This was an outcome of meeting between the external affairs ministers of the two nations held in New Delhi this week. S Jaishankar represented India and Wang Yi from China had a two days meeting.

Below is the list of the products

•        Specialty fertilizers

•        Rare Earth minerals

•        Tunnel boring machines

India depends on Chinese import for approx. 80% of its total consumption of Specialty fertilizers which will impact the Kharif crop grown from June to October, including rice coinciding with the monsoon season.

Also since last few months China has halted exports of rate earth magnets which is an important part for EV vehicles. These minerals include - Scandium, Gadolinium, Samarium, Terbium, Lutetium Yttrium and Dysprosium.  Earlier when it was blocked – Many Indian companies had started working on a replacement with an indigenous option. SIAM – Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers was in regular discussion with Indian government on this.
