Iran’s double-tap drone strike hits castrol storage in Erbil

A recent drone strike has targeted an oil storage facility operated by Castrol in Erbil, located in northern Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The attack is attributed to Iran and involved a “double-tap” drone strategy, intensifying the impact.

Initial drones reportedly struck multiple points within the facility, followed by secondary strikes targeting the same locations. This tactic amplified damage, triggering large-scale fires and dense smoke plumes visible across the area. The hit on oil storage infrastructure significantly increased the intensity of the blaze due to flammable reserves.

The incident highlights rising risks to energy assets in the region, particularly in politically sensitive zones like Iraqi Kurdistan. For global oil supply chains, such attacks pose operational disruptions, insurance cost escalation, and heightened geopolitical risk exposure.

Further assessment of damage and supply impact is awaited.
