India Permits Export of Organic Sugar with Annual Cap of 50,000 MT

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, of India has issued Notification No. 51/2025-26 dated 29 December 2025, allowing the export of organic sugar in a limited quantity.

Earlier, the export of organic sugar under HS Codes 17011490 and 17019990 was classified as “Restricted” as per Notification No. 36/2023 dated 18 October 2023. Through this latest notification, the Government has partially modified this restriction.

What Has Changed from 29th Dec 2025?

The Government has now permitted the export of organic sugar, subject to the following conditions:

• Export is allowed up to a maximum of 50,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) per financial year

• Applicable HS Codes – 17011490 / 17019990

• The export will continue to fall under the Restricted category, but with this defined export quota.
