Armed attack onvessel Lady Naeima off Yemen coast

Palau-flagged bulk carrier Lady Naeima was targeted in an armed attack while transiting the southern Red Sea on 6 July 2026, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The incident occurred at approximately 07:19 UTC, around 30 nautical miles southwest of Al Hudaydah (Hodeidah), Yemen. UKMTO reported that a skiff approached the vessel and opened fire. The ship's embarked armed security team responded with defensive fire, after which the skiff retreated to a larger support vessel positioned about two nautical miles away with its Automatic Identification System (AIS) switched off.

MarineTraffic data identifies the vessel as the Palau-flagged Lady Naeima, a 2000-built bulk carrier measuring 137.03 metres in length with a 23-metre beam. At the time of the incident, the vessel was sailing in ballast and has continued its voyage without reported damage or crew injuries.

The vessel remains en route to Kandla Port, India, where it is scheduled to arrive on 12 July 2026. The incident highlights the persistent security risks facing commercial shipping transiting the Red Sea despite the presence of onboard security measures and ongoing international maritime monitoring.
