Gangavaram Port has accelerated its digital transformation with the launch of Digital Smart Gates, an initiative positioned as a “DigiYatra for ports” to enable seamless, contactless cargo movement.
The system replaces traditional manual gate processes with fully automated, contactless entry and exit, integrating FASTag-based vehicle identification with the port’s terminal and operating systems. This allows real-time vehicle tracking, automated documentation, and faster gate clearance, significantly reducing congestion and turnaround time.
Digital smart gates have been deployed across critical operational points, including entry gates, parking zones, weighbridges, and cargo handling checkpoints, ensuring end-to-end process visibility and improved compliance monitoring.
The initiative also strengthens security by allowing only authorized vehicles while creating a transparent, data-driven logistics environment for exporters, transporters, and port operators.
Operational impact:
Faster truck turnaround and reduced dwell time
Lower manual intervention and documentation delays
Improved accuracy in cargo and vehicle movement tracking
Indian ports are now adopting airport-style passenger tech (DigiYatra model) for cargo logistics—marking a shift toward predictive, automated port ecosystems rather than manual gate-driven operations.
In our earlier blog we have also done a SWOT analysis for Vizhinjam port .
