Northern Sea Route crossed in 6 days – record made by China

Vessel Istanbul Bridge crossed Northern Sea route in just 6 days, record made

The vessel moved at a record highest speed of 18.4 Knots while the average speed through Northern Sea route was 15 Knots

The vessel departed from St Petersburg on 18th Aug 2025 and is expected to reach Qingdao on 12th Sept 2025

Then on 20th Sept 2025, same vessel will be pioneer to start a new service from China to Europe

Name of Service – China- Europe Arctic Express

Chinese Shipping Line – Haijie Shipping Company is set to start this new service for Northern Sea route

The comparison of transit time is as below for transit from Shanghai to Felixstowe

  •        For Northern Sea route the transit is expected to be 18 days

  •        While the route through Red Sea/ Suez Canal would take approx. 45 days

  •        The route through Cape of Good Hope would take 75-80 days

  •  

This route is the future of shipping innovation

Apart from Haijie Shipping, Maersk has also done a trial shipment on Venta Maersk from Shanghai to St. Petersburg.

Apart from these two shipping lines, no other major shipping has done the  trial and most of them are avoiding this route due to harsh weather and environmental challenges
