DSV to buy DB Schenker

Finally on 13th sept 2024, the deal was finalised for DSV to aquire DB Schenker in approx. 14.3 Billion EURO. Once both are merged, DSV will World no 1 freight forwarder and will be above the present top two – Kuehne Nagel and DHL.

German Giant – Deutsche Bahn AG decided to sell its logistics subsidiary DB Schenker and focus on its core business rail logistics, the sales will reduce a significant debt of the DB Group.

DSV is Danish in logistics and freight forwarding.

Both the companies have a history to learn from each other – DB Schenker started in 1972 while DSV started in 1976.

Impact of merger

Together both will have a combined

  1. Revenue of 39 billion EUR (as per 2023 data)
  2. Work force of 1,47,000 employees in 90 countries.
  3. Germany will become a Key market for DSV with strong background of DB Schenker. DSV    plans to invest approx. 1 billion EUR in Germany in next 5 years.

Acquisitions are mainly done to increase market share and beat the competition

  • 1997-Samson Transport Company
  • 1990-Svex Group AB 
  • 2000-DFDS Dan Transport Group

The present acquisition is expected to get the regulatory clearance by 2nd half of 2025. Until the clearance both the companies will work as separate entities.
