Russia's Perm submarine may become world's first purpose-built hypersonic missile submarine in 2026

Russia is expected to commission the Perm, the sixth Project 885M (Yasen-M) nuclear-powered attack submarine, in 2026. If the program proceeds as planned, the vessel will become the first submarine designed from the outset to operate the 3M22 Zircon (Tsirkon) hypersonic cruise missile, marking an important milestone in the evolution of naval strike capabilities. Why Perm is different
