Rising conflict: USA & Israel strike Iran
On 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel launched coordinated military strikes deep into Iranian territory, marking one of the most significant escalations in the long-standing tensions between Tehran and Washington/Tel Aviv. Targets included military, security and strategic infrastructure across major Iranian cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and southern provinces like Hormozgan.
The strikes reportedly hit dozens of locations, including close to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s offices, and Iranian state media described multiple powerful explosions.
Casualties & Impact in Iran
Early reports suggest:
Over 200 Iranians killed, including civilians and children, and hundreds more injured.
A primary school in Minab (Hormozgan province) was struck, killing dozens of children.
Internet networks in Iran have largely collapsed, with connectivity reportedly falling to near-total blackout levels.
Iran’s retaliation: Missile & drone strikes
In response, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones targeting Israel and U.S. military bases across the Middle East.
These counter-strikes reportedly reached facilities or airbases in:
Qatar – including near Al Udeid Air Base
Bahrain – home to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters
Kuwait, UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq — U.S. assets and partner bases were targeted.
While many incoming missiles were intercepted by regional air defences, at least some strikes caused damage and fatalities in host states.
Iran’s broader military actions
This conflict is part of a long history of Iran’s regional military activity, including:
2025 Iranian missile attacks on U.S. bases, such as Al Udeid in Qatar, during earlier phases of the wider Middle East conflict.
Past strikes like Operation Martyr Soleimani (2020) saw Iran fire ballistic missiles at U.S. bases in Iraq after the killing of IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani.
Iran has also engaged in other proxy and direct actions across the region over the last decade, stretching from Iraq and Syria to Yemen.
Presently the Gulf of Hormuz is closed, we have mentioned a blog earlier on Risk Involved in Israel-Iran war & importance of Strait of Hormuz.
