MSC reduces Ocean freight for exports from Far East to Europe, Mediterranean and North Africa

Recently MSC has announced to reduce Ocean Freight for exports from Far East to Europe, Mediterranean and North Africa for the month of December 2025 from 15th to 31st December till further notice.

The quantum of new Ocean Freight is as below for FAK (Freight of All Kinds)

Apart from base ports the other ports are subjected to usual TAO/TAD

The above rates are inclusive of the Basic Ocean freight, ▪ GFS (Global Fuel Surcharge) VATOS USD 79/TEU, ECA (Emission Control Area): VATOS USD 15/TEU for MED and NEUR (Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, UK, Netherlands and France) and VATOS USD 52/TEU to other Nordic and Baltic countries.

The other charges are as below

·       CLS (Carbon Limitation Surcharge): VATOS USD 20/TEU

·       CRS (Carbon Review Surcharge): NEUR VATOS USD 57/TEU - MED VATOS USD 85/TEU

Above data has been taken from MSC website

Since MSC carrier more than 20% of Global containers, thus this reduction will make it competitive in the market and push other lines also to reduce the freight meanwhile Maersk has already reduced freight to above quantum for some shipments on their spot rates.

There will rate reduction pressure on CMA CGM, Hapag Lloyd, COSCO and other shipping lines.

Presently the discussion for opening of Red Sea passage is going on, once it opens there will be much more space than the demand due to extra vessel being unused which is now used for the route through Cape of Good Hope.

Will keep you updated.
