Maersk revises ECS surcharge for shipments to Khor Fakkan and Sohar

Maersk has announced a revision to the Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) applicable to shipments moving from global origins to Khor Fakkan, UAE and Sohar. The updated surcharge structure will be implemented from the Price Calculation Date (PCD) of 17 March 2026.

The ECS applies to specific trade corridors including South Africa–Middle East (S5N) and West Africa–Middle East (W2WM) services connecting cargo flows into the Gulf region.

Under the revised structure, ECS levels will apply to dry containers, reefer containers, and high-cube equipment, with different rate tiers depending on container size and type.

Maersk stated that the surcharge adjustment forms part of its network cost recovery measures amid operational and geopolitical risks affecting Middle East shipping routes.

The updated ECS will apply to all applicable shipments booked on or after the implementation date, while cargo already in transit will remain unaffected.
