India opens anti-dumping probe into electrical steel imports from four countries

India has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of grain-oriented flat-rolled electrical steel (GOES) from China, Japan, South Korea and Russia, marking another significant trade-remedy action aimed at protecting the domestic steel industry. The investigation follows a petition filed by JSW JFE Electrical Steel Pvt. Ltd., which alleged that low-priced imports from these countries are causing material injury to Indian producers.

GOES is a specialized steel used in the manufacturing of power and distribution transformers, making it a strategically important input for India's rapidly expanding power transmission infrastructure. According to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the investigation will determine whether exporters have been selling the product in India below its normal value and whether such imports have adversely impacted domestic manufacturers.
