Inauguration of India’s First Maritime Simulation Centre at AMET University: A Big jump for Maritime Education in India

Recently on 26th Sept’ 2025, Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated India’s first of its type Maritime Simulation Centre in Chennai, India at AMET - Academy of Maritime Education and Training.

It’s a joint venture between AMET university and Maersk with both the parties sharing 50% of the total investment.

While the training cadets will get a real environment experience through Simulation.

  •        AMET started in 1993

  •        It has approx. 25+ years of collaboration with Maersk

  •        AMET also host Maersk center of Excellence

Indian government has been pushing to boost its maritime sector through different initiatives like Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision of 2047 and Maritime India Vision of 2030.

Recently Indian Ship Technology Centre was inaugurated at Indian Maritime University Campus at Visakhapatnam.

The government has also established India first NBFC in maritime sector – SMFCL Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited.
