Hapag-Lloyd container vessel Source Blessing hit by projectile near Strait of Hormuz

Recently on 12th March a container vessel Source Blessing of Hapag Lloyd which was chartered by Maersk was struck by projectile near the Strait of Hormuz.

There were multiple vessels attacked on 11th March also.

Impact –

After the attack their was fire on board which was extinguished quickly by the crew, the damage to vessel is being assessed, the vessel is still in water in north of Ras Al Khaimah in Persian Gulf.

The crew is safe.

  • IMO – 9243198

  • Type - container Ship

  • LOA - Length overall (LOA) is 243.35 meters and her width is 32.28 meters

  • TEU capacity - 3237


The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of global oil shipments transit, has seen a sharp decline in vessel traffic as operators reassess risk exposure.

For liner operators and cargo owners, the attack underscores the growing operational risks, rising war-risk insurance premiums.
