Fire Aboard Passenger Vessel The Atlantic Cruise in Bangladesh, One dead

Incidence

Recently on 27 December 2025, a huge fire broke out aboard on a passenger vessel - The Atlantic Cruise while she was anchored at Nuniachhara jetty in Cox Bazar in Bangladesh.

The vessel was enroute from Cox Bazar to Saint Martin Island. The fire is said to start from the engine room around 6:30–7:00 AM local time as the ship was preparing for the journey.

Soon thick smoke and flames rapidly engulfed the vessel and reached her superstructure and destroyed the vessel completely in a very short span of time and later the action was taken by fire response unit, the Bangladesh Navy, and Coast Guard team.

Impact

  • Loss of life of one crew member Nur Kamal (25 years). Luckily no passenger was on board else the casualty has been huge.

  • Severe damage to vessel.

  • This is the peak season for travel and will impact the tourism originating from Cox Bazar area for next few days.
