Chinese linked oil tanker JV Innovation attacked near Strait of Hormuz

Recently an oil tanker JV INNOVATION reportedly came under attack near the Strait of Hormuz, o 4th May, the attach triggering a fire onboard and raising fresh concerns over maritime security in the Gulf region. The vessel is linked to Chinese interests and was operating near the UAE coast at the time of the incident. The vessel departed from All Jubail port, Saudi Arabia and was moving through Persian Gulf when it got attacked.

Vessel details are as below

  • Vessel Name – JV INNOVATION 

  • Type - Oil/Chemical Tanker

  • Vessel Flag – MARSHALL ISLANDS

  • Size - length overall (LOA) is 180.07 meters and width is 32.23 meters.

Current Location of the vessel is at Sarjah Anchorage. There were total 22 crew of Chinese origin and all members are safe.

The incident highlights growing risks for tanker operators transiting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, as regional tensions continue to impact commercial maritime operations.
