Adani Logistics launches first double-stack rail service between ICD Tumb and ICD Patli

Adani Logistics has launched its first double-stack container rail service connecting ICD Tumb (Vapi, Gujarat) with ICD Patli (Haryana), creating a high-capacity freight corridor linking western India's manufacturing clusters with North India's major consumption markets. The service is expected to improve rail capacity, reduce logistics costs and strengthen multimodal cargo movement across the country.
The corridor primarily serves industries in Vapi, Silvassa and Daman, while providing faster connectivity to Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Punjab. By carrying two layers of containers on a single rake, double-stack operations significantly increase payload per trip, improve wagon utilization and reduce dependence on long-haul trucking. According to the company, the service could reduce carbon emissions by up to 30% per container while easing highway congestion and improving transit efficiency.
The new service also enhances export-import connectivity through western gateway ports, including Mundra and Hazira, by offering a more efficient inland evacuation option. Faster rail movement is expected to benefit sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and electronics that require reliable and cost-effective supply chains between Gujarat and northern India.
The launch aligns with India's broader objective of reducing national logistics costs from around 14% of GDP to below 10% through greater rail utilisation and multimodal infrastructure. With a nationwide network of logistics parks, inland container depots, warehousing facilities and private freight train operations, Adani Logistics continues to expand its integrated rail logistics footprint. Industry observers also view the Tumb–Patli corridor as a foundation for future double-stack connectivity with major ports such as JNPT following recent clearance for double-stack operations.
