APSEZ’s (Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd) subsidiary AIPH (Adani Internation Ports Holding Pte Ltd.) has finalized a deal with Tanzania Port authority to operate Terminal 2 at Dar-Es- Salaam Port for next 30 years(2024 to 2054).
It’s a joint venture between Adani Ports Group and EHTL (East Harbour Terminals Limited)
This deal marks as entry for Adani Ports into Tanzania.
- The port is one of the 2 major ports in East Africa. (another is Mombasa)
- Dar- Es-Salaam Port handles approx. 80% of Exim cargo of Tanzania.
- The Terminal has capacity to handle 1 million TEU annually and handled approx. 0.8 million TEUs in FY 2023.
- The Port is well connected to Rail and Road.
Adani will handle container terminal 2 through TICTS (Tanzania Internation Container Terminal Services Limited), TICTS presently owns all the port equipment’s and handles the supply of manpower.
Adani Group has an ambition of becoming one of the largest port operators globally by 2030 and with the present merger and acquisition going on, it seems their actions are well defined to meet their goal.
