Maersk appoints new MD of South Asia – Christopher Cook

As per recent news Maersk appoints a new MD, Christopher Cook covering geographies for India , Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Maldives –  he will be stepping in from 1st Oct 2024. He will be replacing Vikas Agarwal.

There have been drastic changes in Maersk since 2020 when Maersk shifted its focus away from liner shipping to freight forwarding / domestic logistics. Since then the market share for Maersk has started falling and they have moved from world no.1 to world no.2 shipping line and about to fall further to no. 3. The above strategic shift of focus might be a game changer in long run as Maersk is known for its pivotal strategy and its benefits in long run.

On basis of above set strategy Maersk has made a lot of changes in its management and brought in peoples from freight forwarders. They appointed Vikas Agarwal as MD of South Asia – who had long experience in freight forwarding and moved in from Ceva logistics to Maersk on 1st Mar 2021. Vikas Agarwal replaced Steve Felder. Now the MD position is taken over by Chrostopher Cook who is presently Maersk MD from UAE, Oman and Qatar and has a rich and diversified experience.

Christopher Cook said in an interview –“I am deeply honoured to take on the role of leading the team in South Asia. This region presents immense growth opportunities, and I look forward to working closely with our talented team here. Together, we will strengthen Maersk’s position as a trusted logistics partner for our customers while driving solutions that create value for them and our stakeholders”

We wish best of Luck to Christopher for his new role.
